Today Ron and fished in the Oceanside Anglers Club Thrasher Shark Tournament. Fishing was pretty good and a lot fish we're boated today. At about 8:00 we spot a huge paddy of birds just sitting there so I say to Ron lets Cruise those birds and see what happens. Sure enough soon after I turn towards them ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz!
We're hooked up! This fish hit my rig so I took it. This one was a big-un it must have hit my down-rigger cable first because you can see where it is frayed and broke. So I lost my ball and clip. I got the fish to leader 3 times but it was still pretty green. on our final try I put the rod in the holder and tried to leader it so Ron could sink the gaff. But the tail was so long we couldn't get a descent body shot. Then the fish shot off again so I let go of the leader and ping! by by.Now I lost my favorite Shark lure. That was the biggest one I have ever hooked.
Oh well after we got over it we worked that same area with the birds thousands of them sitting on so much bait that the whole fish finder was completely covered. At 11:00 Ron's rig went off and he took this fish. It was his first Thrasher ever so I was happy for him. The fish came to the boat pretty much dead so we had to harvest it. At the scales it went 130lbs. Nothing to brag about but at least this tourney we got to weigh something in

. And I got to send Ron home with a couple coolers of fresh steaks and a few for my self too. Talking to a few people I believe that the bigger models are deeper so use your riggers if you got em.
Hag out.
