Does anyone know some good places to pig hunt on public land? I went by POZO, CA a couple of weeks ago but didn't have any luck. I have heard there are some pig around there, does anyone have some information?
You will hunt 5-10 days for every pig you get when hunting public. $500 for a guided trip is a deal. Guides can teach you what too look for the next time you hunt public. If you can't afford a guide or like going on your own here you go. Go get 'em!

About half of the state is under private ownership and wild pigs occur mainly on private lands, but many public areas in the state have a fairly high rate of return on pig tags. In the northern part of the state the Tehama Wildlife Area has a modest return. In the central part of the state, Cow Mountain Management Area and Laguna Mountain also do well. The military bases (Fort Hunter Liggett and Camp Roberts) are responsible for 35% of the public land take. Please see the Department of Fish and Game's Guide to Hunting Wild Pigs in California for more information on behavior, biology and how to hunt wild pigs plus maps and contact information for wild pig hunting on public lands, recipes and more.

I have seen hogs get trapped out here in California on a regular basis, but most within the state park system were the hogs become a nuisance and get into campers ice chests and supplies. Those trapped hogs typically get released outside the campgrounds but find their way back pretty quickly.
I previously suggested the military base Fort Hunter Liggett because most of the wild hog hunting I do, even though it is on private land, is a mere 15 minutes from that location. Lots of pigs are taken there as well as turkey and blacktail deer and the hunting is open to the public.
All of these hogs were taken within a few miles of the base...

That's what I'm talking about! We hunt them on our 4 wheelers with AR-15's.
Believe me, pigs do fly.
I really like the sixth picture.
Where was that pic. taken at?

I know this sounds stupid but here goes. Are most of the pigs in california " Wild Pigs" or descendants of escaped domesticated pigs from farms, etc. ?
I see soem are marked like domesticated pigs spots, etc. some are the dark brown you see in Texas and the Islands.
Looks like fun anyway and you seem to be good at it.
Great post and pics. Pretty funny huh?
Tim You are the MANNNNN!!!!
I have been wanting to get in to pig hunting, I have thought of purchasing a 30-06 or a 308 calibre rifle my question to you would be do any or both of these rifles have enough punch to bring down one of these big mothers? (not that I have the knowledge or experience to even find one of these beasts)
