Dos Locos: No truer words have been spoken brother. Unfortunately, the sheepdogs are becoming rarer and rarer every passing day in this state.

You are right about the general media.
If you get NRA's National Rifleman it has a columm "The armed Citizen" with stories of just that.
Lots of stories of crooks getting justifiably blasted.
I've had a CCW for 28 years. Never had to pull the trigger but it is nice insurance.

You local Sheriff can issue a CCW permit that is good for the entire state. Different Sheriff agency have different critria for what they deem justifiable to issue the permit. They will do a background check, fingerprints and application. After that is said and done and all money is collected they will determine if you need a ccw. Did I mention the money is not refundable. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Re: The value of a CCW Permit.

I have a Wa CWP. All the adults in our family have CWP.
Here you go in to the police or Sheriffs Dept. Fill out the paper work, pay the fee. They finger print you, wait for your background check and away you go.
Here they cannot ask you why you need it.
If you are not a Felon or violent crimes convicted(domestic ect.) or a mental patient you can have a CWP.

Re: The value of a CCW Permit.

You were foolish letting the guy approach you close enough to hand him money. Great distraction for a 2nd partner to conk you on the head. Same ruse with a cigarette needing a lite.

A whoa command with you arm up letting him know you're armed and will defend yourself usually sends the dirtbags somewhere else.

You also reward these cretins and encourage them when you give them money.

Situational awareness and keeping a buffer will help keep you alive.
