He's sitting my best stand. I'm 100% for at least seeing deer from it. He'll miss.

You jinxed me you fucker!

I did miss. Had a nice fat doe slightly quartering away at 30 yards. Watched them for a couple of minutes come in behind some brush out in front of me. Plenty of time to range her, relax, standup, get steady, etc... I drew as she was some behind some brush and she stepped out and I hammered that trigger faster than high school prom sex. Shot right in front of her. Up and down was good, side to side, not so good. I need to wear a walkman while bowhunting that plays a recording, "Breathe, pick a spot, count to 5, etc..."

I fucking fell apart.

Re: Off to make strawberry snow cones

As a side note, I did manage to make a couple of lemon snow cones. Nothing beats peeing in the snow.

There is a good 6 - 8 inches in the trees. Areas that get sun are starting to crunch a little.

What can I say, I'm clairvoyant. Not like it's hard to predict. If anything, you're consistant. 3 for 3 on SD deer this year.

If it was thirty yards in front of you, that could only be one area and I've only had one deer (spike) come in from there. Call me dammit.

Re: Off to make strawberry snow cones

I'm trying my luck in the morning. I'm good for at least 2-3 snow cones myself........hopefully I'll get a red one tomorrow.

Re: Off to make strawberry snow cones

I went out yesterday morning and am still trying to thaw out. My truck thermometer said 24 when I left to walk in. I sat in an area, that I haven't hunted all year, because of promising reports from my friend that hunted it over the weekend. Some of the way in had snow at least a foot, if not more. On the way in I could see lots of fresh tracks in the snow that fell earlier in the week (Monday I think). I sat about 30 yards from a very fresh trail that several deer had made and actually stopped under a couple of oaks and made about 10 holes through the snow trying to find acorns. Well, that's about it. I didn't see a single thing move and about 0800 (that's 8:00 a.m. to you civilian types) I knew that even if something did come in, I was shivering too bad to shoot straight. I did bump 2 deer out of their bed on my way out but they took off like rockets. I actually couldn't believe how close they let me get before they jumped. On the way down Sunrise at about 1000, I spotted this doe and her yearling on the ridge by the Sierra Club. I don't know if you can tell in the pictures, but she was huge. She watched me for a while and switched her atention to the other side of the ridge. I never did see what she was watching. If it hadn't been so noisey to walk, I would have tried a stalk on her.
Not a very productive hunt but it was much better than being at work.

Re: Off to make strawberry snow cones

It was crunchy in the morning for the most part. I did find spots on my way out that were pure powder. It should get a little sloushy (and quiet.....er) as the sun starts melting it in the afternnon. You afternoon hunters should find it a little easier.
