Dog swimming or training

Just moved here from Utah, and I am training a Golden Retriever. I haven't been able to find any freshwater places to take my dog to teach her to swim. I was hoping one of you could point me in the direction of somewhere in the north county area.I also was wondering if there was any dog training clubs here. Thanks in advance

Lake Henshaw is a nice place, and the folks that run it are very hunter friendly. I take my dog there to train/swim a few times, but you do have to pay a "daily use" fee.

I belong to the San Diego Sporting Dog club. Its an all breed dog club. Here is the link. They have training events and some planted bird events throughout the year. Give Steve/Mary Sarmiento a call and tell him Brent with the Golden sent you (I have one too - the only one in the club I might add).

For water training, I went to Fiesta Island (close to PB/Mission Bay). Its salt water but I had no issues. Nice and calm. Now I just take Cody to the beach. Del Mar dog beach is a good place to throw bumpers.

How old is your Golden? They are typically softer and mature a little slower than labs as you may well know so take it easy and make training fun for the first year or so if he/she is a puppy.

Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck.
