Some serious BS!

Okay, anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

A friend and I have been putting in for a archery elk hunt in Oregon for several years now (8 years for him and 4 years for me). That's a lot of points. Anyway, we get drawn and then someone, I don't know if it's Oregon Fish and Wildlife or the State of Oregon, but they now decide that they are NOT going to issue any non-resident tags for that hunt after all. It was in their big game book for 2007-2008 so we put in for it again.

We know we were drawn because they gave us a phone call to let us know the situation. We were told that we could choose another draw area to hunt and they would allow us tags or we would just get our points again for this year.

The fu%^$#^%&^ catch is that if we do pick some area just so we can hunt we lose 8 years of points. What a crock of shit!!!!!!

Anyway, were just taking the points since there doesn't seem like much we can do about it.

Just venting!!!!!

That sucks man! Not as bad as yours, but my uncle has been doing the elk lottery in pennsylvania for the past seven or eight year. My twelve year old cousin, for her first hunt ever, was picked! I think it rigged, they wont give it to an experinced hunter, but to a first timer. This just reminded me of it.

That sucks Marc. Did they give you a reason? I can see if the expected birth wasn't up to par but out of state tags bring in a lot of money to the local economy.
Get their e-mail and post it here. Maybe we can send them feedback about it if they don't give a reason why.

That blows. You should automatically get tags for that unit next year. That's what Camp Pendleton does when they cancel deer season. Same for FHL. If you are still pissed, you should give them a call. OR Fish and Game is very easy to talk to. They answer the phone and are generally very cool.

My suggestion is to call them with a cool head and discuss it with them, piss them off and you can kiss a future draw good bye.

Really blows. I'm with Kid. Get on the horn and let them know your displeasure, but kill them with kindness. Don't be a dick (and I'm not saying that you would be) and you might get some favorable results.

Re: Some serious BS!

Having your drawn tag yanked and then having to blow your preference points on another area doesn't seem at all right. Maybe if you talk to them they will throw you a bone and allow you to retain your points and still hunt another area. That would seem a logical way to compensate you for your trouble/frustration. Good luck.

Re: Some serious BS!

Thanks for the suggestions. We're still working with them. My friend is the party leader so they require all correspondance to go through him. We're still waiting for the deer, antelope, and big horn sheep draw results. I'll post when the final resolution is reached.
