Dave that's exactly why I don't pay to hunt private duck clubs. This past October I went to Canada with 4 other guys. We shot limits of geese any day we wanted to, that's 100 geese a day, we shot limits of ducks when we went after them, thats 40 per day. I went for two weeks freelancing and it cost me $1600.00, tell me a club that can come close to that!

If I were you guys I'd start networking with guys out of state for pigs and deer, get the best bang for your $$$$$

Re: private property

Kid nailed it. It's all about the network. It's taken me years to build a good one and it keeps getting better.

Re: private property

yes I think if you cant find good public land you should be able to find a rancher that will let you hunt there property and if any of you guy's come to central OR I'll hook you guy up with some of my 2,nd best property's and the rancher's that wont shoot you if your from CA.OH! and I dont think to hunt pivate property you should pay $1000 of $ to hunt any where

Re: private property

Here's a liitle networking story!

Me and my buddy Stuart drive back to Missouri with a friend to hunt the spring snow goose conservation hunt. We're back there fow a few days and the guy we went with had to head home unexpectedly. So Stuart and I had to make a choice, go home or make something happen. That afternoon we run into a Missouri game warden and start hitting him on where to go for snows, he tells us we're too late, the snows have already migrated north, I ask how far, he says way north, 250 miles. 250 miles, crap we just drove 1700, whats another 250. We charge after them, find them all over the place, I can't describe to you how many geese were up there! We find like 20,000 plus in this field, we looked for the owner for an hour we finally find the owner and he tells us to have at it. So we hunted for a few hours and one of the last birds I shot a big eagle head flwe off with a broken wing tip into the next field. I went after him, by the time I got back it was 20 or so minutes and now there three trucks waiting for me out on the road, it's the farmer who owns the field and two othe farmers who are laughing at me. They ask, why would you go through all that effort, my answer was "If I leave one is it OK to leave two or a dozen" The farmers knew what I was getting at. We made a good friend that day and we still have a spot to hunt in Missouri to this day. Treat the land owners like you know you should!!!

This is what we shot that day!

Re: private property

SNEEKEE, by network I mean a circle of friends than I have come to know through hunting and fishing. Guys who live all over the country who own property, know people who own property, have good public land honey holes, are guides, own outfitting businesses, own scouting services, or are just really good hunters. A couple I've met through guys on this site, like One Track. He's a well connected dude. And all these guys are hard core fellas who will go out of their way to help me out and who know I will do the same for them.

I personally know guys with good connections in CA, AZ, CO, NM, NV, ID, WY, some states back east like OK, OH, FL and GA, and even in Mexico. It's the reciprocity principal. I hook them up with spots I know and then they return the favor. It takes a while to develop a good network and then you need to stay on top of it keeping in contact with everyone. With a good source of contacts, your really don't need a guide as good info is never more than a phone call or email away. A lot of these guys I've met over the years have become my best friends. In the world of hunting, it's better than anything money can buy.

I'm just giddy as all hell cause I get to go hunting tomorrow. YeeeeHawwww! Again, another hunt that was hooked up through my network of hunting buddies.
