| AZ Elk and Antelope application deadline passes
OK so who put in for AZ Elk or Antelope, I barely made it and hope to draw a Elk tag for this fall. We are bonus point heavy and should have a fairly good shot.

I put in for unit 9 and 10 archery bull. I drew unit 7M 3 years ago so my bonus point count is low but you never know. I drew Arizona the very first year I put in (Unit 27) so miricles can and do happen...

My dad put us in again for Elk, but not sure what unit(s) he applied for. I have 13 bonus points & he has more, so hopefully, we will get the nod this year.
We've been lucky on a few deer draws in the past-late season 12A West and a a draw in Kofa a few years back.
Good luck to everyone who applied.

Rant on: I am a long time, out of state applier/hunter in AZ and both my parents are born and raised in the state. However, I think their new draw system is full of shit......having to buy a license just to apply is fucking wrong. I love hunting the Kaibab zones for deer though.....have taken some big dear there. Given that I haven't been drawn in like 5 years, I stopped contributing to the AZ fish & game by buying a license. Rant off....lol.
With that said, good luck to all those that applied.....their are monsters up North (and East for Elk).

We did see a HUGE Kaibab style 4 x 4 late afternoon on opening day, but I was in high sage with the wind howling a solid 25+ and I just couldn't keep my weapon steady enough to risk the shot-and the waist high vegetation obscured my view while laying down. In hindsight, I probably should've taken a chance with a standing shot, but I hoped I could get a stalk on it, and that it was the first of many such opportunities. I never saw him again, or another buck close to that first one. My dad killed a decent 3 x 3 on the 4th day of the hunt because he was heading home and wanted some meat, but I stayed and continued my quest for a non-typ. I never did see a non-typ during the hunt, but I drew a bead on more than 20 shootable bucks, just not what I was hoping for on that hunt. I did have several opportunities to take this HUGE old fork with lots of grey whiskers and a rack that was probably 30" by 22", but not very heavy like the 4 x 4 we saw on opening day-not sure if that fork would be considered non-typ, but again, it was early in the hunt and I opted for an opportunity at something with a crazy non-typ rack. In the end, I learned an assload about glassing, and, to me, it was my most successful hunt ever, even without an actual kill. On the Kofa hunt, I took a FAT 3 x 4 on the second day. It was the only deer I saw and the only shot I had heard. The warden took a tooth and determined it was at least nine years old. While not huge, it was a personal best for me and I have it here in my living room. That was the last hunt I was drawn for-four or five years ago-maybe I'll get lucky and pull a good draw this year, I really miss it. Rob |

Granted, U.S.O. created quite a stink when they tried to get the non-resident tag quota changed from 10 percent of the total tags available, but I thought that you always had to buy a license to apply for big game and generate bonus points. Am I wrong on that?
W.W., being that you are a resident of that incredible elk state, your chances of drawing are obviously alot better than any of us non-residents. Good luck this year...
By the way, does anyone know when the draw results will be available this year? I'm hoping to pull it up and fall right out of my chair again...
