Re: Browning BLR experiences

The Marlin Express is cool, but a proprietary cartridge. The .308, 06', 270 all are easily available. Also, pointy bullets are a no-no in a tubular magazine gun!!

Not exactly true.........I saw these at a local gun show last weekend. Soft tips that won't set off the next round if gun is dropped or from recoil

Cabela's -- Hornaday LEVERevolution Rifle Ammunition

Hornady, a leader in ballistic innovation, now introduces a new line of ammunition for lever-action rifles that dramatically increases velocity, energy, trajectory and downrange terminal performance. Lever guns with tubular magazines have been hindered in the past by their inability to fire pointed bullets safely. Now Hornady has perfected the Elastomer Flex Tip™ bullet that can be safely fired from such rifles without fear of a chain reaction discharge in the magazine. The Flex Tip puts enough give in the bullet tip to prevent detonation of the primer ahead of it in the magazine. It also increases the ballistic coefficient of the round by using a pointed bullet design and permits the use of propellants that can turn popular 100-yard "brush gun" rounds into deadly performers at 200 yards and beyond. For example, LEVERevolution .30-30 ammunition shoots a 160-grain bullet that is 400 fps faster and has 400 ft.-lbs. more energy at 250 yards than conventional .30-30 ammo, and bullet drop at 300 yards is about 12" with a 200-yard zero. LEVERevolution similarly enhances the performance of other popular lever gun calibers over conventional ammunition. Join the LEVERevolution today. Per 20.

Re: Browning BLR experiences

What he said. True they are a proprietary round as my .204 was. If I am traveling to a place where I don't think I can get rounds such as these I have Cabela's send my ammo ahead to where I am staying rather then hassle with the airport (gun is enough). Especially if I need large amounts for prairie dog shoots.

Two boxes of centerfire will fit in my gun case as I did last trip to Argentina with a .270wsm (the ultimate round). They had never seen a .270wsm and did an article in their version of Field and Stream on it compared to a 30.06. In all fairness I had never seen a 14 gauge single shot partridge gun either.

No? Doesnt everybody have one?

On the "pointy bullets" thing. I realize that they make some that are supposed to work, but again, moving away from readily available

go with a 9X54 R

Re: Browning BLR experiences

I have a 14 gauge in my gun cabinet. It's an older black powder shell gun.

Now as far as Partridges? We just shot ditch pigeons with em. Least my Granddad did.
