| Help, friggin post office
I need to ship a shotgun to my father in Louisiana. when I walked into the post office today to do it, everyone got excited, I prob should have had it in a case or something? and for the record, those tasers that the Chula Vista Police carry do hurt and are very effective.
so Does anyone know how I can ship a shotgun down south?

I think you will have to take it to a gun shop. I tried to ship an old WWII rifle for my grandfather via UPS. No dice. They called me and I had to go pick it up at the distribution center.

Ship the gun from a dealer here to a dealer there. I shipped 2 guns that way to Kansas to a friend and was told that it was the legal way to do it. Just my experience.

Yeah - what Curtiss said - the only legal way anything else is smuggling or terrorism.

Not true at all. You do not need to be a dealer to ship a gun once you have gone through the DOJ process and the gun is registered to you. I have done it on four different occasions. While not necessary, with a shotgun you will probably raise less eyebrows if you take it apart and ship it as "parts." Just pack it well and ship it UPS. I have shipped guns (a rifle twice, a pistol once, and a shotgun once) back and forth to me for repair and/or customization and believe it or not, it is just like shipping anything else. USPS will never mail a gun as a matter of policy, but UPS will. This can't be done during the initial sale, but after that, no problemo. Like anything else valuable, just make sure it is insured and get your tracking number.

Yep part it out and send by UPS in seperate boxes if it's staying registered to you...
