I've never hunted Turkey's either. I checked out some info on the Sutherland Turkey Tune-up and it sounds like it could be a good way to pick up some info. Anyone else gone to this in the past?

I went and drew a hunt last year. Nothing special. Fun to BS with the guys and they raffle off some good swag, but unless you draw one of the first hunts of the season, it aint that hot.
I drew the second to the last pick. We got one little jake to gobble back at us several times, but that was it. He already had a lady and would not commit to my calling and come within range. We were lucky to even see/hear a real turkey.
I'm not going this year. Just too much other stuff going on.

Rob, definitely go and take your bow. Last year they had a bow shot (1 arrow from about 17 yards) competition where you try to hit a small spot on a paper turkey target. I was really close, then some lady center punched it. She won a real nice fanny pack. The raffled off a bunch of other calls, shirts and hats, even a couple Tejon hunts. That part was cool.

I am all over this, only thing is what areas are great to head to? I've never gone for turkey, but will this season. When in Julian in the fall, I couldn't believe the numbers of birds in the local hills - any hunting in the area?
