| Maine whitetails Sat 11/18 - wish me luck! I'll be hunting mostly in Waldo county...town of Unity on my grandfather's farm. I've hunted there since I was 10. I got these images from the Maine Geological Survey two years ago and I ordered a big 24" laminated version for this year's hunt. His property stretches from the main roads on the left & bottom to the brook on the right, all the way to the top of the image. The main farm house is just above the word Unity. After almost 30 years, we know this place like the back of our hands. I prefer to still-hunt/stalk or just sit, but my dad likes to drive deer, which is not against the law in Maine unless you have more than 4 people involved. We typically do that all day long and then find a place to sit from 1400 until sundown. This is one of our favorite and most productive runs over the years. It has probably produced twenty or more deer for us. Check out that bottle-neck! I can't wait to be in the woods again! Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

Cool Adam. Sorta down near Agusta. My grandparents live up in Houlton, basically on the border with Canada. I said the same thing about the 30 inch spread. The weight isn't too unusual. My uncles biggest is an 8 point, 246 pounder. It was massive.......
Good luck!!!!!
Oh, and if you want to read the small story, here it is from the Bangor Daily. Can't find the photo though..... ......
------------------------------- By John Holyoke
Bangor Daily News When Craig Beaulieu went hunting near Millinocket on Tuesday morning, a thin coat of snow still covered the ground and the air was chilly. It didn’t take long for the day to warm up … and for him to change his plans. That’s when the deer of a lifetime showed up. "It was a deer of opportunity," said the Van Buren native, who now lives in Hampden. "It was really warm on Tuesday. I was in the woods about five miles, overdressed, so I wanted to get back to the truck to take some layers off." At that point, Beaulieu said he wasn’t so much hunting as he was traveling, trying to get back to his vehicle. "I was just hoofing through the woods, came over a ridge, and I saw one of the [antler] tines sticking out," he said. Beaulieu ended up shooting the deer, finding it, then heading back to his truck to get a rope … and some friends. "I didn’t realize [the deer] was that big," Beaulieu said. "All the other guys met for lunch, and I said, ‘Well, I got an eight-pointer." The key concern for the hunting party was the work that was left to be done: Dragging the deer back to the truck was going to take quite a bit of work. When Beaulieu’s friends saw the deer, they realized it wasn’t your average eight-pointer. "We get out there and they walk up to it and say, ‘That’s not an eight-pointer. That’s a horse,’" Beaulieu said. Not quite a horse, perhaps, but a massive deer nonetheless. Beaulieu’s buck weighed 252 pounds, field-dressed, and its eight-point rack was a wide-slung masterpiece: Its spread measured 30 inches. Beaulieu said the largest deer he had shot before this one was a spikehorn buck. With the deer down and the photos and storytelling over, Beaulieu, along with his brother and two friends, had plenty of work left to do. "We dragged him two miles, through two beaver bogs," Beaulieu said with a chuckle. "But I’ll tell you: It was well worth it."
