Re: Wild Turkey Question

Holy crap! I was just wondering if they were good to eat I had no idea and wouldn't kill one unless they are tasty. Being a well contractor I know lots of people in my area and can get access to a lot of places by just asking. I do notice that they always seem to be found where there's some water and usually come out of the brush to feed in open fields early in the morning and sometimes in the late afternoon but not as much. I'll gladly trade hunting access for fishing invites but I insist I share fuel/bait costs. Sold my 36' boat last spring (and now I really regret it) so I can appreciate the costs to go drown sardines. I see alot of shit out here and because of the nature of my work I go places most people never get a chance to. If I can Ho out my friends property in exchange for fishing sounds like a good trade. I'll try to find the charger for my camera and take some pics, otherwise when the season gets close we'll regroup and I'll get you guys on property that doesn't have public access.

Re: Wild Turkey Question

I'm in. I can't offer to take you fishing, but will buy a 1/2 or 3/4 day trip in exchange.

The problem in San Diego, is that most of the turkeys stay on private property, their are birds to be had on public land, but it's a hell of a lot harder than private.

I don't have a boat, but I'd be willing to pay towards some of your gas money on your next trip with someone else....

Exactly. that is why you will get so many offers from us hunters to help with your "Problem". When turkeys were first stocked here, there was a big fuss by the environmental left about how they would harm the native vegitation and such , so they prevented them from being released on public land. However, San diego city property (Sutherland), and more than a few private land holders offered up their land. The result is a booming population, but with alot of them still concentrated on private land. There are some on public land, but the hnting pressure is tough......

Re: Wild Turkey Question

Allaspect,

Those birds let you get close because they know you are harmless. Don't be fooled. Walk up and shot one in your normal attire this spring, see if one ever gets near you again.

The fun of the hunt with turkeys is not shooting one. It is calling one in while it gobbles and displays. Anybody can shoot one......
