Early Kaibab is a very tough hunt, doable, but don't expect a 190" buck around every tree. The hunt that made the Kaibab famous is the late hunt during the rut. With weather it can be the best draw in the country. But the early hunts are real tough. The deer really have not moved en masse into the area. It is not uncommon to go a long time without seeing a deer. I don't want to discourage you, the area has the genetics and a good buck is certainly possible, you will just have to hunt really, really hard. I hope you have top quality, and high powered glass. If you cannot put in serious time to scout, I'd strongly consider hiring a guide. The Kaibab has many hot pockets that hold the deer, the key is knowing where these pockets are. If you need info on a guide who knows the area very, very well, drop me a PM and I'll get you in touch with him. He is a good friend of mine.
All that said, congrats on the draw! Be thankful that you get to hunt in the land of the giants.
I got nuthin so I'm jealous.

I got bonus points for elk. Deer for unit 41. And a fall archery javelina tag for units 33/37b. First time they have offered fall archery permits for javelina so I applied just for the heck of it and got drawn, not sure that was such a good idea though since I hunted the same area in January and it was hot then, will be really rough in September. Hopefully I can find some higher elevation in these units that also hold Javelina.

Lots of pigs in that country. We went 2 for 2 last Jan in 33. It sure will be warm in Sept.

I think he was thinking of the later rut hunt for all the huge bucks. The early hunt is a very tough hunt, but hopefully an early winter will follow a hot summer and we can get some snow. That hunt usually has about a 40% success rate and the guys that get them put in their time.
I may take you up on the guide service if my buddies who have hunted there in the past don't go with me.
I don't expect to see a ton of deer, I am just looking for 1 chance.

Good luck! | I have drawn 6A numerous times. I believe that is the only place I have ever drawn actually for elk. I know it pretty well and am stoked to get a bull elk tag along with my family. Sometimes it is a problem that you know an area to well as you have to many honey holes but you can only be in one spot at a time.
I guess I am pretty fortunate that I get drawn more times than not, but only occasionally for a bull.
If anyone ever needs a starting point in 6A for elk, I would be happy to give an idea or two.
