You did see the (j/k), right? I just needed a title for the picture and because you had an earlier thread about our local gene pool and the abundance of forks and spikes, I figured I would use that. Also, when does a fork change from being a "fork" to just a 2X2? I wouldn't call your mount a fork, looks like a 2X4 in the picture. I have a 20" 2X2 that some people call a fork. Calling the one from yesterday a fork certainly would be misleading.
BTW, when is li'l Nate gonna be here?

Oh ya, I saw. I don't mind a big mature fork. It's the little crab claw sporks and spikes that i really think need to be weeded out. There are a lot of mature bucks in our hills that will never be anything bigger than forks. That is OK, the gene pool is solidfied by hundreds of generations of that gene. Nothing we can do to change it. But the spike/spork issue, those need to be shot, IMO.
Actually that buck is a 2x5 (not including eyeguards). The front "fork" is a crab claw on his left side. That buck was old as dirt. I'm not sure if he has always been a freak like that (although the area I killed him is not known for those genes) or if he was just an old buck that was regressing. When I shot him I was hoping he'd break the 30" mark. Ended up 1" short.
Not sure when a fork becomes a "2x2". I have always considered them the same.
My son is here. Delivered last Thursday night after 21 hours of labor. 11 days late. He kicked my wife's ass.
