This is a real problem.

Went hunting w/ a guy this year that had a new 870 with feeding problems. To the smithy it went. Very frustrating for him. Very disappointing that Remington put out a product like that.

I don't know if Remington covered the cost of repair but I don't think so.

These mag followers fixed my feeding issues... These generally cure the problems as long as the chamber is in good shape... If you get an undersized or rough chamber you are SOL under Remington fixes it or gives you a new barrel...

I actually carry a new mag follower for the 870/1100/11-87 guns in case someone has an issue with a new gun...

thanks guys for the input. I think for now I'll just borrow liprippin's (Pete) 870. We know each other well, and he knows I'm responsible, safe, and will keep that gun in the same shape, or better, as when I got it.

Maybe I'll save a few extra pennies and find a Nova or something

Don't give up on the 870 if you're going with a pump. The mid 80's and older 870's are the best there is in pump shotgun.

Kyle,

Jump on an old 870 when you find one... But be careful and make sure it has the 3" chambers as the old ones have a 2 3/4" chamber... My brother now has my old wingmaster manufactured around 1960... That thing is tits... I put a chromoly LC barrel on it and it dropped the weight by a pound and a half and allowed the use of steel shot...

Even though I shoot Benelli's, I have both the Express and Wingmaster. Other than the shiny blueing on the Wingmaster the biggest difference is that it is only chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells and has a fixed choke whereas the Express will shoot 3 inch shells and has multiple screw in choke tubes. It is an older Express and I never had any feed or jamming issues.

Bought my son a youth sized Express last year in 20 gauge, which he only shot for 6 months before he outgrew it, but the little gun worked flawlessly for him until he began shooting one of my Benelli SBE's.

I have a late 80's 870 Express. I've shot thousands of rounds through it, dropped in the water, rolled it in the mud and it shoots as good today as the day I bought it. I also still own my first shotgun my Dad bought me when I was 13. A Winchester Model 12. It's an early 80's edition with the 3" chamber. It has been through hell and back and never failed me. It still shoots great. It has a fixed modified barrell with no screw in chokes but that gun has killed many, many birds. I upgraded to a Berretta semi auto in the late 90's after shooting pumps for nearly 15 years but the old reliable pump comes with me as a back up on most trips.
