| Quail & Duck combo
My brother and I headed down to the IV this weekend for the duck opener, decided to get down there friday afternoon and do a little Quail hunting as well. Quail were scattered around everywhere with no real coveys of any size to be found. hunted for 3 hours in the afternoon for 19 birds in the bag. All Quail were shot everywhere from Niland to Brawley, with a lot of 1 and 2 bird stops.
On Saturday morning we arrived early at our blind on a Wilderness Unlimited pond just outside of Wister. this was my first ever duck hunt, so the anticipation was tearing me up inside. We set up our decoys, camo'd our blind, and waited for sun up. the shooting was extremely slow!! we managed to get 5 ducks between us (4 Teal, 1 Spoon), which wasnt too bad considering we only had 6 birds that we took shots at. no ducks were intersted in our decoys and were all taken as fly bye's. Even though the hunting was extremely slow, i think i am now hooked on duck hunting. it was a blast and am ready to head out again once the birds start flying in better numbers.
