If i can see the line they can for sure.... have any of you used crimps on the pvc/tangle free line? Drews idea is a good one... a lot of my decoys have a short piece of coated coper wire that i use to wrap around the neck a couple of crimps on the main line and you could slide the weight back away from the pretty paint.

How's the pooch!?

I figure if they are close enough to tell if a plastic duck has a sting attached to it I should probably be shooting..

The sky will make a difference for you too.
I don't worry about it so much. I use a darker color decoy string. I try to have as little slack as possible from the dek to the bottom. In moving water you have to let more line out but still have never had a problem of ducks flaring.

Go to your local office supply store and get a bag of #64 rubber bands. Very easy to use in the dark.
I would wind the line around the neck or keel and throw a rubber band around the sinker and decoy.

I didn't even know there was any other system out there other than the J hook weight and the rubber bungee (-; Its perfect.

I use black parachute cord type stuff for my line. Get the thinner diameter. Doesn't tangle and you can work with it.

Cabela's -- Greenhead Gear® Braided Camo Decoy Line – 500 ft.

This is the perfect set up. Screw mono and screw tangle free. I've used it all and this is the best hands down.

Yep, that is the exact setup I bought from Cabelas for my individual duck decoys. Very sano rigging and no weights bouncing against the dekes.

When we hunt fast moving water on the river we use a gangline that incorporates 10 pound barbell weights (or old brake rotors) that we attach 3/8 inch tan colored rope. We attach the individual floater decoys with stainless longline clips in various configurations and then position the strings of decoys to simulate a group of geese sitting on the water with a landing hole in the middle in front of the guns. If the sandbars are showing we use full bodies and sometimes stuffies to seal the deal. Very effective in moving water...

Decoy Rigging

Have never used mono for the anchor drops but know people who have. They often complained about them getting tangled in the bads but I think it had more to do with how they secured the anchors than the mono itself.

I use 1/8" braided long long cord and 6oz. mushroom anchors. Works well in both lakes and in moving water with a little current. To keep the cords from getting tangled, I use a small diameter bungee(run thru a split ring in the anchor and tied together) and wrap it around and over either end of the keel to secure the anchor. I hunt with cork and wood decoys but this will also work with most plastic birds too. You can also see in these pictures there's a clip attaching the cord to the keel. This can also be used in changing the overall length of the dropper. By clipping the line at whatever length is needed, with the remainder of the line being left wrapped around the keel, only the line from the clip to the anchor will come off the keel. Helps keep from winding up the entire length of cord!

Good Luck Guys,

-GW
