preparing for gun season

Guys I suggest that if you plan on hunting deer or other big game, go to the range and thoughly check out your gun and scope. I went to project 2000 today to make sure my scope was still on and maybe reset it to 300 yards from 100 yards, well surprize, surprize my dear old scope was no good any more. We put a bore sight on it and couldnt get it within 6 inches at 100 yards at max adjustment. So went to Big 5 and wow they had the scope I wanted on sale a 3x9x40 bushnel with weather tinted caps and all under 100.00 out the door, life time warenty and all, adjustable focus and variable adjustment also. So I guess I could say I was lucky that I didnt rely on it being ok like years past. There was one buy at the range also checking out his gun and he fired 2 shots and his scope fell off and broke... So it doesnt take much for things to go bad..

Funny you mention that, I just brought the Weatherby .243 down from dads so me and mike can take it and my Tikka .308 to the range. Want to make sure that the .308 is hitting 2" high at 100 and that the .243 is hitting an 1-1/2" high at 100. Plus its just nice to hear a BANG when you've been playing with a bow for so long!!!

check your guns!!!

not necessarily to prevent a miss but to prevent a wounding...

if your gonna hit it... make sure you take it home with an ethical shot!!!

30-30 with iron sights have taken more deer than any other rifle.

It is a good idea to burn as much ammo as you can afford being heading into the field.

Gotta watch the scopes... I had a brand new simmons on my 30-06... It lasted 3 rounds before grenading... You can't assume anything... Sneekee said the scope would not last a whole box.. He was right!!! It was scary though, 3 rounds touching at 100 yards then 8 feet low and 5 feet to the right...

kinda tough using a 30-30 at 400+ yards though, some of my shots have been up to 627 yards my last deer...
