I hunted an evening and a morning the last few days and have struck out. The cams show sporadic activity, just not when I've been there. Once again confirming that attempting to pattern these deer is a joke.

I'm thinking that there might be a few more kitties up there than there has been in the past. I know that these deer aren't as predictable as whitetails but there are a few things that they have in common. They have primary bedding grounds, they have a primary water source, and they have a primary food source. They don't usually stray from the "primary" anything, until something breaks the pattern. I have hunted one of the few water sources that isn't man-made and isn't 5 minutes off the road. Deer have been there for as long as I can remember....like clock work. The sign is still all there, but I haven't seen a single deer since opening day enter the watering hole. This happened in an area close to this one several years ago and I later found BIG cat tracks a few days later. About a week later, no cat tracks and the deer started showing up again. It's been hot before and not changed their pattern like this. On opening day, I hunted the morning and then was sitting again at 1:00 PM. You would think that if it was that hot, deer would have to come in at some time in the middle of the day to drink.

I actually had a solo doe feed to within 60 yards friday morning before she vered off. After exiting my stand I looked around and deer sign was almost none existant. Deer are using trails much lower on the hill but not in the numbers that I was seeing during scouting.
I contribute it to the new trails that have shown up recently. One of these trails was cut no less than 40 yards from my stand and has really contributed to the amount of foot traffic in the area. Unfortunately all my other stands are not favorable morning stands due to their direction to the sun.

dont know what is going on, with you guys not seeing much unless it has to do with maybe more hunter pressure this year compared to last year and is making them bed and feed and water deeper in, like I said the other day I went up to my spot where I got shot at awhile back and in 1 1/2 hours saw a total of 9 deer with in range, only one old human sign, so think about changing your thoughts and tactics, who knows might work, walk in further, there is other water around...
