hunting report from the hill

me and a buddy tried to go wrangle up some deer on friday

we walked and saw a couple does but they got wind and took off

we walked alot more....

then i stumble on a nice forky..... no pictures sorry

i was leaning against a tree... and there he was in all his glory!!!! laying dead about 3 feet away... looks like someone did a catch and release on him last year

my buddy said the area we were in was like 6 foot high with real thick brush last year... so i figured he got shot took off and did a good job of hiding

i feel bad for the one who couldnt find it... but i took the skull and antlers... so i got a nice set of matching "sheds" to play with or make something out of.... maybe a bow rack or something

thats it........ ok bye

no burn area... think it was a hunter just cause it was near a couple of tree stands and the antlers were still really solid on the skull so it had to have died probably nov or dec... any later that that i would think the antlers would have come off pretty easy... and i think one of the rear ribs was broken... who knows... thats just my uneducated autopsy

ok bye

Totally up to you since you rightfully found the rack, but you might want to ask around a bit and see if someone might have lost that deer. Might be good karma for you. Call the local archery shops/clubs. Someone might be able to match the description of the buck and the general area. I know if it was me who lost the deer, I sure would appreciate it.

Keep 'em for rattlin'. If someone couldn't find it they were either too lazy or not good enough to track. Not like the "racks" you find around here are of any size.

Or they busted their ass, lost sleep, missed work and did everything they possibly could to find it but still couldn't. The hunter was probably sick about it. Hunt long enough and unfortunately that will happen.

All of the above! Well over ten hours looking for that thing. Followed blood specks for several miles (not counting the circles & zig-zags .) It was worse once we seen the deer after a couple hours in too...although motivating.
