I could walk out the door with shotgun in hand, walk less than 1/4 mile and hunt pheasants & rabbits for 100's of square miles for field rows, creeks, & railroad property.
Got my first fishing pole on my 2nd birthday (Zebco 202 & Ugly Stick) i think) mom still has it.
Got my first shotgun on my 10th Christmas (20 guage "Topper Jr" single shot) I still have it.
Ya......... you could say that fishing & hunting is popular in Illinois.
Not quite as popular as porking sheep, but a very close 2nd. |
On the family farm, about 500 hundred miles northwest of your place, we had a tributary of the Red River full of fish 100 yards from the back porch, frequent deer, the occasional moose, and ducks and geese so thick they blotted out the sun at times. Varmints galore for plinking/trapping. The lakes nearby also had northerns, walleyes, muskies, silver bass, catfish, perch, sunfish, sauger and goldeneyes.
I no longer have my first fishing rod. It was a hand me down Tru-Temper with the Zebco also. The steel reel seat must have weighed about 2 lbs. I wore that one out completely.
I still have my first shotgun. Winchester Model 12-Full Choke in 12 gauge. This gun wore me out completely after a day of shooting.
I always shoot a friends 30-06 and 30-30 but give them back when I'm done.
Nobody ever bothered us when we went shooting by ourselves.
As for BS w/o pics, here is a pic of Saluki and his date at their Elementary School Prom.
