so cal varmint hunters

My brother and I are getting things together to start varmint hunting in the san diego area once it gets a little cooler. Do you guys have any tips of where to go or about calls or decoys. Any info really would help thanks.

And for those wondering if I'm just killing to kill, don't worry I have a backyard where I will be practicing my skinning and tanning skills.

better get together with f&g and the foresty dept to see where you can legally shoot or hunt SD area over the past 20 yrs has gotten harder and harder to even find a place to target shoot let alone hunt, at the foresty office in alpine you can get a map that would help a lot, but as par for the course you have to pay for it. I think they now want 10.00 but it covers all SD county.. good luck....

Thanks. Alpine is where my brother is at. I will have to pick one of those up. Willing to drive as far as ocotillo or el centro but I would rather stay closer if possible. worst case scenario is grab the bow and go to a golf course haha.

I once took out a rabinous racoon in my garage with my bow, silent but deadly, the weapon of choice...

I dont know of any places but I hunt Pendleton alot. The cottontail destress call works for me every time. I have a little cheep decoy that moves around on a stick got it at Bass Pro Shops a while back seems to bring em in running that last little bit.

When it cools down, you will have good amount sof luck both during the day and at night. I've only smoked a few dogs this season cause it's just too damn hot to hunt, and they aren't moving that well right now.

There's a lot of guys in your area that Varmint hunt, and a few on this board.

As far as tips, all I can tell you is to watch the wind, plain and simple. There's no fooling a coyotes nose, and the will go straight down wind 99% of the time. If an area looks good, but the wind is at your back, call it another day when the wind is in your favor. Good luck and be safe.

I have heard about their great sense of smell I will make sure I take that seriously. Going to canada near the end of november to kill a whitetail maybe after I fill my tag I will have an opportunity to shoot a yote, heard their pelts up there are beautiful.

Be careful, I am not 100% sure of the regs for out of state hunters and coyotes. I know someone who got in a pinch over it, but not sure why.

But yeah, them big old Canadian dogs sure do have some nice fur.
