| sidearm question
okay, gotta plead ignorance a bit here.. now I am aware that it is illegal to carry a sidearm when bow hunting(during archery season only I assume). I have read safety issues here about smugglers and mountain lions and maybe a few other issues that might require the comfort of having a sidearm when bow hunting. the question is..was it ever legal to carry during archery season , and if so when did it change, and was it exploited to the extent that this was the only way to stop the illegal hunting? or was it just anti-gun personel? reason is a friend was talking to border patrol and he told him he should not be in a certain area without one..when he told them that it was not legal during archery season, the boarder agent responded.." you should not be up hear without a sidearm. in other words really stressed the point.
is it possible this might change in the near future?

If you need a gun to go there, I'd find somewhere else to tiptoe through the Tulips...

makes ZERO sense not to be able to carry for protection. An arrow kill is clearly and undeniably distinguishable from a gunshot kill.

Law aside, archery requires packing enough crap around already. I wouldn't want the extra hassle, weight, and inconvenience of carrying around a sidearm. If I felt my safety was threatened, I'd probably find another place to hunt.

Here's the regs:
354
h) Except as provided in subsection 353(g), archers may not possess a firearm while hunting in the field during any archery season, or while hunting during a general season under the provisions of an archery only tag.
353
g) Under the provisions of a muzzleloading rifle/archery tag, hunters may only possess muzzleloading rifles with sights as described in subsection 353(f); archery equipment as described in Section 354; or both. For purposes of this subsection, archery equipment does not include crossbows, except as provided in subsection 354(j).

I've been told that an open carry unloaded pistol is legal. I just hope there is time to load it if you had to actually use it.
I've had BP tell me that same story as the OP.
