I have held that same license for over 15 years and have never been asked to supply anything in that regard even though we both have them.
thats what I was told tim, that you need them to hunt other states, either I was told wrong or you are lucky....

Actually Colorado, at least, has a law that require hunters from Ca. to have their hunters safety card.
THis policy was instituted by Co. though. It had nothing to do with Ca. DFG policies/changes...More to do with so many Ca. hunters being lameass kooks,,,

Same experience for me. AZ only required that I show a current CA license or previous year's AZ license. CO required showing my actual CA Hunter Safety card.

I can't believe that! The Hunter Safety course is about 10 hours of BS... 2 hours of test material. I have taken it twice (once with my son)... I can't imagine having to sit thru that boring, waste of time class again!! GEEZ!! This state can really suck!!!

This is the response I got from Richard Reyes, Director of the automated licensing for DFG.

Thank you for your email to Director Koch. I’m responding on his
behalf. Because of the importance of your inquiry, I reformatted it into
a Q & A that will be posted on the DFG web site for future reference and
to avoid misinformation. I’d like you to review them and provide your
input along with any other questions you might have. This kind of
dialogue is appreciated. Regards, Richard (916) 928-6899

1. Question: Will every hunter in the state have to complete another
hunter safety course in order to obtain a 2010 hunting license?

Answer: No, DFG is not imposing any additional Hunter Education
requirements.

Regarding the new Automated License Data System (ALDS), scheduled for
implementation in summer 2010. A returning hunting license customer
would be defined as a person who purchased a California hunting license
and had participated in a California big game or waterfowl drawing since
1999. This would apply to both resident and non-resident returning
customers. Returning customers will already have a pre-existing record
in the ALDS Database. Therefore, it will not be necessary to re-certify
hunter education compliance for returning hunting license customers.

2. Question: Will DFG continue to accept an affidavit or a previous
hunting license as proof of hunter education when purchasing a new
hunting license?

Answer: Yes, DFG will continue to accept an affidavit, a prior year
California hunting license, a hunter education certificate with original
number to obtain a new license. After ALDS is implemented, DFG plans to
reevaluate the need for an affidavit.

3. Question: Is DFG adding any new requirement to obtain or maintain a
lifetime hunting license?

Answer: No, DFG is not proposing any new requirements, the same
requirement will apply.
