I guess I'll just mind my P's & Q's and be more vigilant in the areas that I'm hunting. I'd much rather leave a note for the hunter than to call DFG but that's just me...now poaching, there's a reason to get the DFG involved!
I agree. Out here the deer hunting is so pathetic that poaching would definitely spur a call to DFG from me. (unless they gave me the straps! JUST KIDDING.) Otherwise, I would mind my own business.

I live and hunt in an area of the country that baiting is legal and a prefered hunting method. There is a lot of controversy here over the matter. I personally don't bait. But I also have a very sweet hunting set up where my brother, buddy and I have at our disposal 1800 acres to ourselves.

One of the down falls to baiting is the spread of deseases that can occur due to the mass surplus of piled food and the unnatural animal to animal contact that occurs because of it. It's like sending your kids to school. Eventually they are going to get sick.

Here in our part of the world we deal with deseases such as chronic wasting desease, blue tounge, tyberculosis........this is partly to blame on the uncontrolled baiting that occured for years. Now rules are instituted to prevent the semi-loads of food being dumped. I believe you will see a healthier herd because of it.

Just my 2 cents...

Tim, I know, it's BS. But that's the law and I heard some guys got busted up there last year hunting near a bait pile they didn't know existed. It would be up to you to prove your ignorance in court. Good luck. Not a risk I want to take.

"just me...now poaching, there's a reason to get the DFG involved!"

Dude, illegally hunting over bait is poaching! In the purest sense of the word. People that do that are stealing game from the rest of us who do it legally. IMO, that's a perfect reason to get the DFG involved.

You know Nate...I hate hunting without a clear conscience. I'm not sure that me being known as a hill nark would provide me with that clarity. There's allot of other hunters with less to lose than I have...I guess it's just a balance of what it's worth to the individual. Would I be more pissed if I got cited for unknowingly hunting near someone elses pile...or more pissed if I return to my truck and I have four flat tires? Which one of those would stick in my conscience longer I suppose would be my answer...

good topic, baiting has always been a fairchase hunting issue, I have hunted over bait in a few states that allow it, you can walk in to any walmart backeast, go to the sporting goods section and see pallets of 50 Lb. bags labeled DEER CORN,some states that do not allow hunting over bait but sells deer corn almost everywhere as supplemental feeding is allowed

I can remember driving through rural area's where gas stations or mom & pop diners would sell bags of carrots and rotting apples bagged up as deer food, personally I would rather hang my stand on the edge of a cut corn field in west central Illonios during november

alot of states are making it Illegal to bait or feed deer because of bigger reasons, feeding causes deer to congregate in one spot promoting the spread of disease, CWD for one

although I don't hunt locally much anymore, I agree if someone is baiting here, I hope there caught and severely beaten, I have only seen one bait pile about ten years ago on palomar, but I have seen the peanut butter smeared on the tree trunk thing a few times, sat down on a downed tree to tie my boot and put my hand in it, looked like one full jar spread over the tree trunks all around, looked up, there was a hang on about 20 yds away

I did drop my sunflower seeds out of my stand once, by mistake

What about THREE flat tires.....? JUST kidding. I agree with you again; I wasn't brought up to be a rat........GROSS negligence or dangerous actions need to be tamed but being the class know-it-all or tattle-tale (if we can revert to elementary school) never got anyone any friends.......

I hear ya, but there is no sense bitching about it unless we are willing to do something about it. Cal Tip is anonymous. Call up, give the gps cords of the baited site and be done with it. That is what I would do anyway. Just haven't had that happen to me, yet.

Understood. I am an advocate of preserving our small population and keeping my hunting legit. I have hunted out here for 12 years(deer less) but where I grew up spotlighting, etc. was a way of life. We would hunt the morning and go to high school with our guns in the gun racks in the cab of the truck. Perfectly visible to everyone. There was one graveyard by our house that was poached so much by spotlighters that you couldn't read the the headstones closest to the street. (it was shotgun only there.)

It got deleted but gomplin had quoted it. Not trying to sound like a pussy but I think I'd much rather address this shit hunter to hunter than to have this on my mind...like I said earlier, I have more to lose.

Jim, Gary (gomplin) looked him up yesterday before he was deleted. His account was active for over a year. I've never seen him on here before but that just goes to show that other hunters monitor these website's just for info.

Just be carefull guys...imo, it's just not worth it!

You make a valid point Tim. I have a lot to lose too and no deer is worth putting yourself in harms way if you feel threatened.

To each their own. I just know what I would do. There are anonymous ways to handle the situation without anyone being put in jeapordy. Our local deer hunt holds a soft spot in my heart. There are too many schmucks out there. We need the good guys to protect it. It isn't snitching, it's protecting what is important to you.

I didn't see that moron's post. What a piece of work. He probably doesn't even hunt and was just trying to stir up shit.
