Check out the M1 at the range. I have seen an M1 military shooter put 8 rounds in 1 ragged hole at both prone and standing positions. Accurate with match barrel!

Jesus,
Thanks for the reply. No it did not come with anything in the butt. I will be sending off for the accessories.
I decided I wanted to own one of these rifles because of the historical value. I look forward to picking it up and starting the process of TLC. Will post pics when I'm done.

Eddie

Greetings Eddie.

Must Buy Accessories:
1. Garand Oiler
2. Garand Tool
3. G.I. Leather Sling
4. G.I. OG Canvass Sling
5. G.I. Rifle Case
6. U.S. .30 ball U.S. .30 Armor Piercing(check if legal) U.S. .30 Tracer U.S. .30 Incendiary(check if legal)

Options:
1. Match Barrel
2. Expert Gunsmith scope tapping and mounting.
3. G.I. M1-D Scope.

A good G.I. Marine Corps Shooting Jacket will be good for three position range practice. Zero it, log it...note the groups, best ammo groups, have the trigger checked and tuned.

Learn the Field Stripping/Assembly Procedure. The basic groups like Stock Group, Trigger-Housing Group and the Barrel-Receiver Group.

A long time ago i used to watch Philippine Army high school Preparatory Military Training cadets/cadettes field strip the rifle in 5 seconds and assemble it in less than a minute with varied time.

I have some shopping to do. Thanks!

Btw, I took the gun to a gunsmith who has alot of experience with the Garand. He will take it apart, clean and inspect it. He made some encouraging comments with his initial impression of the rifle. It's original springfield, made around 43 and in remarkably good shape. I'm hoping it was carried around by a medic in the war, the used for drill after .

Thumbs up

You are welome Hayman.

If you are gonna have it checked by the smith.... Have him check the gas cylinder. The follower rod and spring is another vital component.

Check the front sight post and ears/rear sight aperture for "shine". This is to ensure a clear sight picture and sight alignment. But... you can always use a Zippo or a candle to "blacken" it in a range shoot or field use.

A Garand is good for deer if you just load one cartridge in by hand. Cycle the operating rod handle and lock it open. Load the cartridge in and close the bolt. Don't forget the lock and load S.O.P. Push the trigger guard safety forward to lock before you load.

The gas cylinder should be cleared of accumulated "soot" and smokeless powder effluents. The bleed holes should be cleared of even partial blockage. This is to ensure efficient gas operation cycling after each and every round.

Rust and powder corrosion is the enemy of every military rifle. Have it removed and lubed.

Mil Spec Parkerized Finished is good for rust prevention. Blueing is another. Chrome Plating is also an option. But.... this will reduce the value of the old rifle.

Jesus,
The smith will completly dismantle and clean the rifle. I will not do anything to the metal or the wood because I want it original, and it is in pretty good shape with some charactor.

Yo Eddie. The original G.I. look is best for your rifle. I found a good picture. The rifle is one great looker!

That is a good looking rifle. Wood is awesome. Maybe I need two M1's. One in new condition and one in it's rough state.

Greetings Eddie....

You got a good rifle. The smith can make it gaudy as that one.
