Pig Hunt

So this is my very first hunt I have ever been on. Fished plenty of times, but I have always wanted to try my hand at hunting.

A co-worker that hunts a lot mentioned to me that he wanted to get a pig hunting trip together at a place he has hunted a few times before and wanted to know if I was interested. I was in!

We left Thursday night the 18th after working all day and drove up to Paso Robles. Arrived at 2:00 a.m. and started kicking back cold ones. The co-worker who arranged it all said he had gotten our guide to bring us out early Friday morning...at 4:30. Since I drove and was up all day, and knew we had all weekend to hunt I decided to sleep in. 8:15 rolls around and they are back...everyone with a pig. The said it was pig city in the hills early, and that I missed it. The guide said he had never seen so many pigs at one time.

So at this point I am kicking myself, but still know that I have the rest of the weekend. The house we were at had a pond in back of it, and I figured I would fish to not think about the possible lost opportunity. I caught more bass in an hour than I have ever caught in my entire life, so I was happy to take a nap and head out in the evening.

Friday night....5-7 pigs across a canyon at 400 yards and we couldn’t catch a break.

Saturday morning and night...NOTHING! I was pissed at myself for sleeping in!

Luck did shine on me Sunday morning, when we were glassing and across the way 20 + pigs come running down a hill to our north. We get in the truck, and haul ass to get close.

Success......

Needless to say I will be doing so more hunting.

Enjoyed some sausage last night, and will be picking up the ribs, tenderloins and chops tonight.

Very cool. That's the first step in getting started. Check out Tejon Ranch. You can hunt unguided, camp out, and have a blast. It's addicting.

Bill,

It is a FN PBR .308. Not really a hunting rifle but I will be in the market for that here in the near future.
