| From pounding Euro's to getting ground by a beef.
Went hunting with two friends at a feed lot near Heber Ca. this a.m. WFO Euro. doves for the first half hour..Couldn't re- load fast enough...Rarely had 3 shells in my 870 at any given moment....That was the upside....BTW we had an "in" to hunt wherever in the feedlot.IE permission....The downside.... It was very difficult to drop the birds on the narrow road between the steer enclosures...I vowed , before I got out of the truck,(it was my first time there. My friends have been going for 20+ yrs.) that "I'm not tromping through all that cowshit to pick up a fuckin dove." Well My bro drops me off, in a hurry , and says" grab your gun and shells while I park the truck." So I do..I shove one shell into the chamber while I still have a bag o shit in my left hand. My bro. yells " right over us" so bag o shit and all I shoot the fucker over the road..He lands in the pen..FUCK...so off I go tromping through the shit to pick up my Euro..Got into the pen and really appreciated how big those steers really are..Made a note to myself " no matter what, do not go down..If one of those 3,000 pound beasts steps on you. It'll squish you like a bug..Kinda skitched me out..Dropped several more into the pens,( unintentionally) and became cavalier in my attitude after several retrieves..Fast forward to fleeing the dust supression water spraying truck..We flee it via a pen where my friend, a man in his 60's had experienced aggression from a steer earlier..I joked that it wasn't mad but horny at the time..Well he was in front of me as I had difficulty negotiating the fence with my big ass bag containing my ammo. reinforcements, and my gun in the other hand. I hear him screaming out, look up and see a steer, the same one, pushing him backward..He is unable to backpedal that fast, neither could an NFL cornerback, and goes flying backwards..His head cracked on a pipe that was a partition of the pen..NOT GOOD!..Amazingly the tough S.O.B. didn't get K.O'd..The steer was looking like it was going into ground and pound mode, Mad Cow Disease? I go int PBR rodeo clown mode. Running at the steer and yelling to attract it's ire toward me. My friend was still down, and between it and the fence..I asked my friend if he was O.K.? His reply. "I'm hurt bad" So I continue to disract the angry steer, as my friend is trapped and incapacitated against the fence..I don't want the steer to finish the job..I see my friend starting to pull it together, and tell him." O.K. I'm going to get this fucker to chase me. When he does can you make it out of here?" "Yes go for it." All good 2 hrs. later he's at the hospital with a half a big grapefruit sized lump on the back of his head..He wanted to come back to SD to the hospital instead of El Centro...All tests came back O.K. Thank God! He's one tough old bird..I saw what happened and it was very scary...

Wow, glad he's OK.
I hunted a feedlot today too. You're right. No dove is worth wading through cow shit.

Hey did you think about shooting a round off up in air to spook the dumb beast? Or at least make him dance a little
Otherwise next time take a cattle prod and shock his ass....! They respond real good to them....
Glad you friend wasn't seriously injured - Dove's aren't worth it...!
