| Need help with scope
My son has a .22 savage mark II, bull barrel, bolt action with bipod.
I have no experience with scopes. I need guidance where and which scope to buy.
My budget is $100 or less. I’ve been looking online but there is a huge world of scopes out there.
We only plink with it, but some day we would like to kill some varmints.
Thanks
Tom

Surprised????
Ah bro, you just don't know. I enjoy the hell out of hunting, turkey and deer are my thing. Doves/Ducks are just too crowded for me. I'm a bangstick hunter not a bow hunter and my experience level is beginner to moderate.

You might also try the Bushnell Sportview 3x9.
It's low priced and dependable. I've had one on a .22 auto of mine for almost 20 years and it's always been just fine.

Hello,
I like BSA. If your looking for a plinking scope its the way to go. If you go to Quality optics and accessories from Leupold, Bushnell, Burris, Nikon and more! they have some BSA 4-16x40 mil-dot riflescopes for 49.95. They are factory blems. I bought one and the only thing I could see that wasn't perfect is the finish. Its slightly off color. Great scope for the money. BSA also makes a scope called the sweet 22. Its set up to compensate for the drop of the bullet. THey range from 55 to 80$ depending on the power you want.
Out,
Chris

I have some experience with this (see pic).... What you need to do is to go to a gun shop late in the afternoon... Pic an object around 100-150 yards away (if possible)... Look at the object with a Tasco and then look at with a leupold with comparable power... You will not believe the difference... My savage heavy barrel .22 is equipped with a leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm with the adjustable objective and the fine duplex reticle... A gun that shoots as well as a savage does, deserves good glass...

Out,
Chris | They have recently lowered the quality of these scopes... I have nothing against BSA scopes... But check the customer reviews of these scopes... You will read many similar to this.... "I bought one of these three years ago and it was an excellent scope." I purchased another one to mount on my new .22 rifle and the quality of the optics has decreased greatly between my old scope and these new models."

Its kinda like everything else now, price of material went up. But BSA tries to keep the prices low. So quality may not be what it was a few years ago. But in the end you get what you pay for. I think you have a much better chance of finding a good scope in the 100$ to 200$ range. Nikon has a bunch of great scopes in that area.
Out,
Chris
P.S. Im going to buy that same Savage you have in .17 hmr on Monday. Its badass!

I agree, do not go with BSA unless you are happy with sub par equipment.
Your bull barrel screams out for better. With that barrel you probably will be able to acquire sub 1/4 inch groups at 25 yards = you shoot the eyes out of a squirrel at that range so get a better scope, not a 3x9, you will be happier with more power. Go somewhere and hold them up to your eyes. A great place to buy is Midway.com , almost to many options there.
