Kents were the shizzle when they were 10-11 dollars a box but at 17.50 a box, I don't think so! | Season's been open ... 12 days - 100 geese so far. I'd say the shell quality doesn't make any difference for you.
So far last 2 years I have maintained around 1.5 shells per bird average w/ kent. I also need clean kills as losing birds is a possibilty (even w/ a great dog) where I hunt, and lower quality shells seem to have not performed as well. After doing the math, Kent's are more economical because I use less. That being said, I'd prefer to find them for around $150 a case. They are occasionally on sale for that, I just would like to multiply the eyes and ears looking out for sales.

I bought the same shells for my son and his 20 gauge except they were Kent's for the upcoming goose season.
I don't think I could find that load combination in the Winchester Xpert HV's where I looked. The Kent's came in 2's, 3's and 4's for his 20 gauge in 3 inch 7/8 ounce at 1550 fps.
Does Winchester make that load Stefan?

I was the BIGGEST Kent fan around, they make a great ammo, here's what happened.
I hunt Canada every year, it's a great place to experiment, there are so many birds you can afford to screw up! So I picked up a few cases of this Winchester HV, 2s and BBs, 1 1/8oz loads 1550 per second for Canada. I like shooting geese on the ground or landing, but in Canada I shot at some geese out at 50 and 60 yds and killed them no problem with these Winchesters.
The 100plus geese I've shot this year was in Canada, not a big deal
Yep, on average Shoot between 150 and 300 geese per year, I shoot Canada in the fall, southern California, Aleutians up north and snow geese during the spring in the midwest, all with Winchesters HVs
I will say that confidence in what you're shooting is huge, I've shot Estates, I can't kill birds with them and I won't shoot them even if I get them for free.
Most important, confidence in the ammo you shoot. should come ahead of price!
February is the best time to buy ammo!

I have to agree with Stefan. I shoot Kent Fasteel 3.5" 1 3/8 #2. I've tried the faster 1 1/4 but I don't shoot as well with them. I've tried federal, estate, winchester, etc. but I've found I have the most confidence and success with the 1 3/8 Kent Fasteel.
Buy what you shoot well. You'll save money in the long run if you're killing more birds with less shells with what you feel comforatble shooting.

Get them in close and you can kill them with a rock. I shot a slew of geese in Argentina last year and have hunted Canada as well. Get them feet down and if you can't head shoot them, you need more practice.
But, everyone's mileage may vary.
Now if you are in an area where they may not work as well and you have longer shots 40 - 60 yards, that is a different animal. Then I think quality matters, to some extent. I think alot of long range shots that "miss" are a result of improper lead and not shitty ammo. But, if you are pulling feathers and not breaking wings at a reasonable range, you might need better ammo.
Kid, I bought some Estate 3.5" 3's at your recommendation for ducks a couple years back. I think you said your hunting partner shot Estate 3.5" 2's for ducks and killed the shit out of them. They have worked for me as well although I have since moved to HeavySteel. Expensive but that stuff does kill at longer ranges when its required. I still shoot the cheap stuff as well when they are over the dekes. Walmart, Estate, whatever I can get for cheap in #4's is what I use.
Stefan, PM me your e-mail if you would please. I'd like to catch up.

I have almost two cases of mostly 3" (#2,#3,#4) with some boxes of 2-3/4" #4's and may have a chance to get the other half that I split with a hunting bud. I do not think I will have a chance to use them any time soon and it's just taking up space. PM me with a decent offer (only if you can pick up or meet in the San Diego area----- No Shipping)
Here is a quick list;
5 bxs 2-3/4" #4
5 bxs 3" #4
33/4 bxs 3" #3
5 bxs 3" #2
I will try to reply back as I can, please be patient.
