I caught a thread on a guy needing/wanting a butcher ,my brother ,my hunting buddies butcher their own ,this way you get you own meat back when shops do more than one you don`t always get you same meat back ,I even know of one whre the butcher takes some of you tenderloins and backstraps with you paying him ,I`am just curious not trying bag on guys who don`t do their own butchering ,I really feel it is part of the hunting harvesting of the animal ,you guy keep doing what your doing

I do my own. It's part of the fun plus you can cut it how you want. The only time i have taken deer to a butcher is when four of us shot three deer and we didnt want the task of doing three. We were hunting an area with no trees to hang them from and were camping so there was no going home.

We definitely do our own. We have had moose, caribou & bear hanging from the beams in the basement, more than once.

I love butchering my own deer and pigs. But, if I get home on Sunday night and it's 80 degrees out, and I have to work the next day, and......I'll take it to Bishers.

Butcher my own.
I still have the butcher shop grind up the hamburger. What I do is bone and clean the meat of all fat and grizzle. Then I freeze the meat to be made into hamburger in one gallon bags. Later in the year when all the big game hunting is over, I take the meat to be made into hamburger to the butcher shop. I know how much it weights, then add the % of fat added to know how much I should get back. I know I am getting my own meat back since no other game is in the shop at that time.. Doing it this way saves a lot of $$$ and I get my own meat back the way I want it. Plus my local butcher shop is usually happy to get a little extra business at that time of the year.

I do all of my own butchering as well.
The kids even let me use their swingset as a staging ground.

Heck yeah I process my own deer or game. The old saying goes, if you want something done right, you do it yourself. Hunting the deer is the easy part. Gutting, dressing and processing is where the real work starts and finishes.
I empty my fridge and keep an extra bag of ice in the freezer. Oldies on the stereo and cold beer on ice. I bring home the meat in XXL Ziplock bags (Walmart) and let the meat age (off the bone) for 4-5 days. The silver skin comes off so easy and the meat becomes more tender and flavorful, less gamey. Then I begin slicing and dicing in steaks, roasts and cubed meat. I use a foodsaver vaccum sealer and wrap in butcher paper. It hits the freezer and then I enjoy the rest of my vacation with a venison steak and more beer on ice.

I do my own also, but when I shoot coastal deer, it's so damn hot it's not worth the effort. I just take it and get it done.
