| Remington 870
I want to get into turkey hunting so I began to look at shotguns. What do some of you more experienced guys think of the 870. There are a few different sub-models of the 870. Which one would be the most practical of the bunch (super mag or not, camo or matte black/wood, etc).
This led me to think a bit more. I've also been thinking a bit more about picking up a bow for deer season '09 at some point before the '09 season starts. Can you use the same bow for both deer and turkey? If that's the case I was thinking of forgoing the scattergun and buying the piece that is more versatile based on my intentions.
Your guys' thoughts?

I have killed several turkeys with my 870 and don't have any complaints. Mine is the 870 Express with a wooden stock. I just use a turkey choke.
You can use the same bow for deer and turkey (as long as the bow is within the DFG regs). Some guys use different broadheads with deer and turkey. Start looking soon if you plan on hunting next season. Most people find that it takes a little longer than expected to get comfortable with their new bow. (Unless your as good as some of the Pros on this sight)
Good luck!

You can use one bow for everything from deer and elk to turkey for sure. I do.
The Remington 870 is a good versatile choice. Get the Express in your choice of the wood or black plastic stock.

Nathan, Killing gods animals will only give you and the family a full belly and a sense of being a provider with the side of bonding with other friends and I'm opposed to this without being invited. Bow would be a kick and I have an 870 and an old Ted Willams if you need to borrow 1, sorry no bows here bruddah

Go with a new bow. If you have the money pour it all in a good archery set up. You can always find an 870 Remington around, even a "beater" gun can get you by. You have plenty of time to practice and become comfortable with your shots and ranging distance. The more you you hunt the turkeys the better you will be when deer season rolls around. Plus theres a fall season here in San Diego now!!

Buy both. Unless you have access to private land bow hunting turkey is a bitch.
I shoot the synthetic stock 870 magnum in 3", It'll kill anything I can hit.
You can find deals on used bows and guns on line.

Hunting turkeys is a bitch no matter what. Even though I didn't stick one this past spring, we were on plenty of birds and the bow wasn't the reason for me not sticking one. I would go all bow if I were you...but if you do go with a shotgun, the Remington 870 express is a very good gun for the $$$.

Get the express and you can afford a bow also. great gun. I would forgo the magnum unless you just want to hunt geese, the 3" will be adequate for them anyway.
