Quail hunting

I'm going to go scout my spot this week. I just got my son into hunting this year and he is really pumped up for the quail opener. I've taken a few years off hunting due to my fishing addiction, but it looks like I'm back in the game.

Anyone else going out local?

I was out in Yuma over the weekend. Season opened early over there, so splurged on an AZ license. Didn't get any, mostly scouting as was new to that area. Found some good stuff and got some leads on other areas as well. They sure run fast.

Good luck out there to you and your boy, mine had a great time this weekend.

I was going to post a thread about quuil also. Good luck to you.

I was going to ask around for general quail spots within and hour of Escondido. I knowe it's like asking for someone's halibut or lobster honey hole, but just a general idea. The place I used to go, 4 or 5 years ago, is down near Dulzura. it's been hit hard by the fires, and is still very dry.

Got a buddy at work who moved from PA, and has a Brittany that is a bird dog. He wants to go out, now I just gotta find a place....

Christ dude your BP. I'm sure there are guys out there roaming around that see Quail. You have the ultimate scouting crew.

Ha, funny.....

I know Mike, when I worked there, i saw birds. However, my bird hunting spots got leveled last year, and from what I have heard, there isn't any water around this year....

i was thinking about heading north, maybe towards San B. Or, I wonder if there's any stuff east of Hemet, near Idyllwild or such......

Might be a little too far north, so those quail that are not there, are safe...

Bird counts are up in the I.V. and locally. Headed up north is not so good. 138, 14, 395 high desert region guzzler counts are down this year. Chuckars didn't do well at all.
