| Does A22 suck more than normal this year?
Or is it just me?
I know I shouldn't complain as I filled one tag but this year has me scratching my head. It's always bad but this year seems to be really bad. The only deer I've seen has been the one I killed. I'm still getting pictures but no where near as many as I would get last year, and only 3 bucks total after having the cameras hung since July, the biggest one at night. Late year I got way more pictures and I saw deer nearly every time out. Pretty sparse this year.
Last night really got me wondering. It was windy and a brisk 52 degrees when I started about 4:00 so I opted to stay on the ground, see some new country and hike around instead of stand sitting. With the heat we had had the last week or so I thought for sure this cold snap would have them moving. I hiked at least 5-6 miles and did not see a single deer. Really weird. Primo conditions and nada. If I can find anything positive out of it it's that the area where I saw by far the most sign is right where I have a few stands hung so that is good, but I'll tell a, it's really getting hard to get excited about driving 125 miles to see squirrels.
You guys been seeing much? Seems like it been more quiet than normal.
I'm about ready to drive an extra hour North and learn a new area.

I've been out 12 mornings so far and its been all does and only 1 buck (very small fork). Almost all movement before 0630 except for yesterday morning when I saw a doe with two fawns around 0830. I'm sure the change in weather and crescent moon kept them wandering about later. Looking back at last year at this time, I had seen more bucks by now for sure. This season so far has not been great for most I've talked to.

I just got an email from a buddy of mine. He sent me a pic of a nice 4X3. He took the photo from his ground blind and he said the buck was under his tree stand. He has seen the same animal 4 times this season. Just a matter of time before it all comes together.

I also have seen more deer this year then any other year. Every trip up the hill i have seen 4 deer close and this weekend is the only time i didnt see a buck. This year i have been alot more patient and stayed in one area then in years passed where i would jump from spot to spot. Its really just a matter of time before i stick one.

Nate, I've seen deer but not like in the past. I believe that some areas are getting hit hard, even during the week. I've got stepped on 3 times during the evening, hunting on a Wednesday and Thursday. Seems like they may not be getting a break with guys constantly trying to freaking sneek up on them. The thing is these guys are not being very stealthy. There are just tromping thru the woods.
I have 4 doe with twins with them working different areas. Kinda cool watching them from having spots during the summer to where they are now. Good sign for the future.... if they survive the hunting season. I've refrained from sticking mom so far.
They also seem VERY wary this season. I've had perfect conditions and have had deer coming right into me but turn around before they come into my shooting range. I even started turning my phone completely off. I don't know what I'm doing it but it gets frustrating. Tried walking to my stand from different areas, getting there earlier or later in some cases.
