Who Says SoCal Doesn't Have Quality Deer.

Kinda gets the juices flowin for huntin season doesn't it. Now correct me if I'm wrong but aren't these Mulie hybrids? They've got an ass like a blacktail but a head and rack like a mule. By the way, these are three different deer. I'm sure they'll be nowhere to be found come fall.

The first one looks very old to me - sway back, saggy belly.

There is always some discussion about hybrids. I think they are just Mullies. Black tails have, well black tails and their asses are not white.
These guys should have a little more white but maybe it's just early in the season as they are pretty brown stll and full velvet.. I thought I had some pics somewhere but I can't find em.

Of course WTF do I know...I could be full of shit.

Man I'd like to have one of those walk within 40 yds.! Prolly piss myself.

If I remember right, you are correct. We have a hybrid population down here. If I can find that web page again, I'll post it.

In order to have a hybrid population wouldn't you have to have a Blacktail population down here? I have never seen a Blacktail locally?
Our mulies here run small compared to their cousins.

I have seen some big ass mulies east on the SD/ Imperial county line. Lots of glass time out that way. I use to hunt out there before A-22 came about. A-22 and BP patrols were beefed up out there has stopped me from even scouting out here any more. Getting into bow range was quite a challenge and the terrain will beat the shit out of you.

Not really much to the story... The wife, a few friends and I took my son to the wild animal park. I've been there a half dozen times in the last couple years so I was more interested in the deer than the animals.

Deno...no you can't hunt them. I asked.

My wife use to wonder why I wanted to be at the park before it opened. I told her so that I could ride the tram 1st to see the deer. She just gave me the look.

I even asked one of the workers there if I could help them with their deer problem. She said they can be a problem because they eat the endangered plants they grow out there and jump the fences and feed with the exotics.
If you ride the tram the dam things ae like 20' from you sometimes. I got more excited at seeing the deer than the other penned up stuff.
