Depends on what you want to do..Normal stuff, any of the Gamins. Try Ebay, you can go from the Gecko( discontinued now I think) at $40 all the way up. I have a Gecko, works great for not getting lost...and an Etrex color with maps that works much better and you can download to it and from it. I like the Garmins, others don't. Go to Sport Chalet or someplace like that, learn about them , then buy on ebay.

I have the the Lowrance XOG and its been pretty good. The one thing I dont like about it is its battery life, 2 hours so you cant leave it on all day but its good to turn on here and there. The main reason I bought it was because you can download BLM maps to it and sat. imagery to it. So I can see exactly were im at on the blm map and I can see whats on the other side of ridges and stuff first without having to waste the time to walk over there with the satelite imagery.
