Sutherland turkey hunt?

Any of you guys hunt turkeys on one of their hunts? I got an invite to hunt saturday and although I've killed ducks on the lake I've never hunted turkeys.

Lucky dog, I've never had the chance to hunt where you are going but I have hunted two of the neighboring properties and you should be on the birds. The fire has thinned the brush and it's much easier to get around.

Hunted the last weekend with Nate, a few years ago. We heard one gobble. Got tired of sitting in a blind. Went stalking. Got busted by a jake. I think it's early enough that you should jump on it.

Thanks!
I've seen them while hunting ducks before the fires went thru so I'll just try and use that old info and go from there. I'm hoping the lake staff may have a clue as to where they are.

Hunted the Bloomdale area of Sutherland Wednesday with a friend (across lake from Dock). Heard 4 different Toms gobbling in the morning. We pretty much sucked as they were walking circles around us. Went to put some gear back in the boat and there was a set of fresh Tom tracks 3 feet from the boat (maybe should have set out a duck decoy spread and stayed in the boat??). We eventually saw one (nice one too) but he was heading onto private and we couldn't get up on him in time. There was one gobbling above the boat dock/handicap hunting area all day but I think he was on private land. Didn't hear any shots so it looks like the birds there survived the day. Had a great time anyway. Good luck!

Appreciate the info. All Mikes are cool! We have 2 blinds so we may split up and cover more area. I think we may be hunting the same spot as you did. I'll know more this afternoon. We are going to meet up at the Bow-n-Arrow shop in Lakeside and set our game plan.

I hope you are hunting with the bow. It would be way too easy with a scatter gun.

I'd take one with a scatter gun anyday, and be quite proud of it too...

You know Mike, you'll probably get out there, and see about 500 ducks on the lake, and no Turkeys......

Good Luck. Knock them dead!!!
