Drove to Cibola on Monday morning hoping to miss the holiday crowds and take advantage of new birds arriving in the valley pushed south by the strong north winds and guided by the full moon of the weekend. My hunch was correct as several thousand honkers showed up overnight. Typical of new arriving geese they were wondering all through the valley and were very susceptible to calling and decoy spreads. The legal shooting time was 5:47 a.m. and by 6:05 a.m. Tuesday morning I had already shot my limit of honkers. I was pleasantly surprised to find that two of my three birds were sporting leg bands! What a way to break in my new Benelli SBE II! I'm not sure what the odds are of dropping a double with each bird having jewelry but it must be astronomical...
Day two was just as good with multiple limits taken by my group. At one point we had over 300 birds land in our set but not wanting to educate the new birds we jumped them without taking a shot. Most flights consisted of 4 to 20 plus birds...perfect for multiple guns. There is nothing quite like a group of honkers fully committed to your decoy set, wings cupped and set and landing gear down, honking all the way in. What a rush!

Did not see any deer but did not go on the refuge (goose loop drive) where most of the local desert mulies hang out. Saw some monster bucks in there last season. Did see alot of deer sign (tracks) where I was hunting though...
Cibola is located south of Blythe on the Arizona side of the Colorado river.
