| Not a road hunter but......
It would be hard to prove that to anyone after yesterday.
Went up yesterday morning and sat till about 8. Got a call a 7:30 from my buddy and he had was seeing deer all around him. I hadn't seen a thing so I do a little investigating in the area, find all sorts of new trails and sign but didn't see any deer. I decided to call it an early day and go home to watch the Chargers game. Get in the truck and thought I'd do a little "role call" to see who was around, get a little ways down the road and see a nice little buck feeding its way up a hill in a ravine. I did what we all would do. I pulled over at the next available spot, got my gear back on, devised a plan to stalk and went out on foot. I got about half way up the hill (the buck was feeding up the other side with the wind in my face) and I hear a whistle, I stop and look around and somebody whistles again. Damn! So I back out and crept back to the truck. I think it was someone I've met up there before because his truck was parked across the road but down a little farther. I did a u-turn to see if the buck was still there and he had made his way almost to the top of the hill. I hope he got him, I think I would have but I didn't want to be a dick (more than he already thought I was for stalking I'm sure). So I decide to drive around and see what else is stirring and I go down another road. Get almost to the end and there's a deer standing 50 yards off the road and another one bedded right behind it. I decide to go down a little farther and then come back to take a few pictures. I get back with camera in hand and now they're BOTH bedded! I snap a couple of pictures and then look at them through the binos to see that they are both little "pencil" bucks. The one in the back actually has a little fork on one side but too small for me. I switch the camera to video mode and get out of the truck to see what happens and they stand up and start to move around. As they start to move around, another one pops up right behind them. I never would have seen him if he didn't get up. His "pencils" were a little bigger and he definitely had a fork on one side. I drop the camera and grab the bow but he never presented a shot so I just watched them WALK away. It was pretty cool to see 3 little bucks right beside a popular hunting dirt road without a worry in the world.
I finally met up with my buddy and his son and was standing there exchanging stories about the morning when I catch movement out of the corner of my eye and it's a yote crossing 60 yards away. I didn't have my release on but his son does so we put a little stalk on and he got a shot at 60 yards. The arrow was headed right at the dog and just before impact he jumps and takes off. Pretty cool just to see the kid have fun.
I'll try to post the pictures and video.
