Dove- Opener Yuma- DFG Border Check

Hunted the Quechan land in Yuma for the opener and got limits for 6 people by 7:30 a.m.. No hassles and no crowds. Unbelievable for a Satrurday opener. BTW heard the DFG had a full on gestapo stop going on at the border check on 86 North at the Salton Sea on Sunday. I heard many people got wrapped up in it. Several groups of guys thought their cooked birds didn't count as part of their possesion limit. No dice. Anybody else get caught in this?

At the AZ/CA border they had a check point going but since we were in a 40' motor home there wasn't enough room unfortunately

We went home that way from Yuma. We were checked by a federal warden and Lt joe. It was no big deal. They checked our birds, import doc's, plugs and licenses. It was done in 5 minutes and we were on our way. They were very courteous and professional. Only bad thing is we purposely went this way to have lunch at Lil Russo's in Beaumont and they were closed when we got there.

Just a heads up , the BP/DFG/HP have set up a check point from time to time almost all the way up the grade on 8 West just before Jacumba . Friends haven't incountered it in a couple of openers . Could be that they were passing through too late .

Had a scare one time, we were coming back from 2 days of hunting, limits 4 guys, and I had all the birds in my cooler. They had a check point but didn't check us. My buddies were about 1/2 hour behind us. Could have been real ugly. Make sure you have only your limits with you.
I heard they bust a couple guys every year in hotels because one guys has his buddies birds in a cooler.

I'm curious as to why they checked your guns for plugs? You were not in the field. If they were not plugged would they have given you a ticket? You were not hunting.

Re: Dove- Opener Yuma- DFG Border Check

I saw the DFG guys when I was leaving the fields on Sat, so I stopped so they could check my dead animals. He used LIVE rounds to check for my plug, never seen that , thought it was silly, why wouldn't they have some dummy rounds to use. Never handled a Benelli before, couldn't get the rounds out. That was funny.
