So let me take a stab at this. Somebody shot a bull during a cow-only youth elk hunt and let it lay? The Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife found it and tried to blame it on you since you were hunting in the same area?

Do I have this right?

Re: A bad first youth elk hunt

I used to hunt the shit out of Ochoco and Deschutes but there started to be so much heavy traffic by hunters it got fucked. With no logging on federal and state properties you cant hunt the old chops or burns effectively anymore. The last few years Ive hunted up on the Umatilla and around desolation. Alot of shit cats roaming around. Glad you got your strap anyways.

Did you happen to notice if there were any schools in the area?

In Central and Eastern Oregon its like going back in time. My wifes family is from up there and people are having a tough time making ends meet. Alot leave school early to work or get hooked on speed. Not the same place I started hunting twenty years ago.

Well said...Sounds like a great hunt, but a little more school work may be in order as well.

Re: A bad first youth elk hunt

Sneekee said he had a learning issue on another post. Cut him some slack, the guy just killed two cougars. For that, I say he gets an award for student of the year whether he can spell or not. Great hunt story Sneekee.

Scary shit that two cougars were that close to you. Doesn't sound like a good place to be tromping through the woods unarmed.
