Wister Youth Hunt 2/4

Got down there Friday evening and signed in the sweatline ( I forogt to send in resv.) We had #1, ending up # 10 out of 11 in the lottery. They had around 60 resv. for sat. morn.. Woke up @ 2:30, only 10 cars in the lot now. 2:45 30 plus cars in lot, looks like most of the Resv are showing up. The first pick was union 1 then #2, 3 pick U10 #5, We wanted to be in the T-10,12
area. when my pick came around there was still a lot of great spots, 114
U10, W11's, and all the hazard spots. Could not pass on U10 #1. We took our time got out there around 5, dropped off dekes and gear at leeve ( you have to be real careful, closed road ticket $ 750, our road was an open road)
park the truck in lot. we set 2 doz snow floaters, 2 doz shells, 3 doz sil.,
4 doz duck dekes.

First light a few flights high. A lone pintail drake peeled around and circled 30 yds tell my 11 yr old "take it" gunz the 20 ga. folds the pinny " holy shit what a great shot ...with a 20 ga." it hits the water and is dead. A hen gadwald overhead Death_To_ my 13 yr old nails it, wiegon out front gunz
it hits the water, Teal on right gunz , folded. Spoonie over next leeveDeath_To_ it's nailed.

These kids shot the shit out of these birds and it was their 2nd time duck
hunting, they just got there lic in November. They ended with limits 5 teal
1 gadwald, 4 wiegon, 2 spoonies, 2 pintail.gunz Death_To_

We had a few flights of snows, guys in #5 got 4, but we never really had them comming in.

Great time, great shoot.

Re: Wister Youth Hunt 2/4

Congratulations on the hunt. Sounds like you got a good young hunter there.

I also want to thank you for the decoys. All of my grandfathers had rotted and I was without even one. So thanks for a great start.

You have a nice looking house there and I really like that neighborhood. I wanted to check out the boat but didn't want to startle anyone.

Thanks a lot.

Mike

PS Catalina sucked. Lots of squid no fish to speak of.

Nice goingDeath_To_ . My two kids fired 2.5 boxes of shells and downed 1 spoony. We hunted a club over by the hazard unit. My 15 year old shot and folded the first duck that sailed into the dekes and it went downhill from there. She and her little sis could not hit another duck afterwards.

Re: Wister Youth Hunt 2/4

I almost wanted to hunt hazard as I know they would just shoot their asses off on the spoonies. A Friend of mine shot the last Weds of the season and they got 21 ducks and a snow in hazard, done by 7:30
