Ducks 1-7 Chucker 1-10 ducks 1-11 long

1-7
My Friend Freddie's brother came in from Alabama for a week of hunting. He has never hunted in California before and I was to be his guide for the week he was here. I main goal was to get him a cinn teal. Left my house Friday with Freddie his brother Pete and my dad. The first stop was at Oak tree gun club for a round of sporting clays for a warm up. Freddie shot 25 out of 50, my dad got 28 out of 50, Pete got 31 out of 50 and I got 44 of 50. After that we headed to Kern. The next morning at kern we got in the sweat line. We watched as they called name after name but not ours. Finally they called ours. Only unit 1 was open and I have only hunted it once so I did not really know where to go. Started walking out looking for a place to set up. Found a nice pond and set up. The fog was really thick so it was hard to see the birds. The first bird of the day came by Pete and he dropped it. I go pick it up for him and it was a cinn teal. Man the was easy. Mission accomplished. Hunted till 11:00am. My dad got 1 cinn teal, Freddie got 1 cinn teal, I got 3 Cinn teal 1 green wing and a mallard and Pete Got 3 green wing teal and 2 Drake cinn teal.

Yesterday we went chucker hunting. It took a little while to find them but we ended up finding 3 coveys. The first covey never let us get near them. The second covey My dad got 2, I got 1 and lost 1, Pete got his first chucker ever and Freddie got 0. Out of the 3rd covey Pete and I got 2 each and my dad and Freddie got 0. After that we ran out of time and headed over to kern.

Again we got in the sweat line. We were hoping we would be called sooner this time so I could get my favorite area. We got lucky and were the 4th person called. Got my favorite area and my favorite pond. Got set up and waited for shoot time. It was foggy out but not as bad as Saturday. The ducks came in steady all morning. The highlights of the morning were having 4 sprig come in and dropping all 4 of them, I dropped 2 ducks with 1 shot (a first for me) and having a pair of Redheads come in right at us and missing them only to have them come back around and dropping 1 of them. We had our limits for 4 by 11:00 am. We ended up with 4 sprig, 2 redheads, 4 green wing, 5 cinn teal, 3 spoonies, 6 gadwals and 4 ringnecks.

I have a resi for Mendota on Sunday but I decided that it was too much of a pain in the ass to drive back from Mendota on a Sunday. I almost did the same run. I will be doing it for sure on closing weekend.

Re: Ducks 1-7 Chucker 1-10 ducks 1-11 long

I just got done cleaning all the ducks and I dont want to see another duck for a long time especially the ring necks. Yesterday was one of the best days of duck hunting I have had. I was planning on going back up there on Saturday but I think im going to wait till Wednesday.
