I was on a mission to get a BIG buck if my boys couldn't be with me but if they were, to just get a decent one. They have never seen me get a deer and they were really excited to get a chance.
Well, after missing last night and hearing my boys give me the business, I decided that this morning was going to be redemption time.

First thing in the morning we spot a couple of doe on top of a hill and then we see something else behind a tree. It takes a couple of steps out and we see bone on its head so it's game on! Apparently it didn't mind seeing us because it just bedded down right in the open. I think cool, don't have to worry about a running shot. Lay the gun out on the bi-pod and decide its too small. The boys and Madbuck start in on me because I said that I was on a sole mission to harvest a buck with my boys there to witness and now I'm passing on a legal buck. I used it as a lesson to the boys and they were cool with it. We continue moving around and end up seeing about 10-12 deer down in a meadow and can see that 6 of them are little bucks. There were a couple of sporks, a spike, and a few small forkies. We watched one of the sporks try to swell up on just about every other buck and when the bigger buck would turn towards it, it would run away. Pretty cool, he'll be a bully when he grows up. I had to leave by 0800 to get my youngest to soccer practice so we decided to try it again tonight. On the way out we look back in the direction of where we saw the little bedded buck and there's a doe there by herself. I put the glasses on her and scan the area and see another deer behind a bush. All I can see is its hind end and then I see tines sticking out above the bush. Game on again. This time I wasn't having second thoughts. 240 yards with the Weatherby 300 and he was in the hurt locker. I had to put one more in it neck because my first shot was a little farther back than I wanted but it's all good!
The big boys that I have been seeing will just have to wait until A-22.
Gotta have a serious look
