Idaho Turkey 4/28

I have been studying abroad in Argentina for the past 9 months, and returned to the states 2 days ago. My dad told me he had a turkey spot like 45 minutes from our house in Eagle, gave me directions last night to the place, and I set out at 5 this morning in search of spingtime toms. I got there a little late, they had already come off the roost, and i could hear at least 2 gobblers within 400 yards or so. I walked in, crow called, located the general direction they were and kept moving towards them. About 250 yards into my walk, I stopped to call, and got nothing. They had henned up and shut up and since I had no clue of the lay of the land, it became a guessing game of where to set up. Well about 50 yards later into my walk, I saw some turkeys, froze, and dropped to the ground. It was about 4 or 5 hens with a strutting tom coming straight for me. About a minute later (what seemed like an eternity) I had the tom at 35 yards and it was a done deal.
Im guessing he weighed 18 or 19 pounds, he had about a 6 inch beard, and average sized spurs. Anyways, I am way stoked, what a freaking way to come back to the states. I love the USA

Did you go hunting over there?

Did you hunt over there?

I'm heading to Uruguay in 2 weeks to bird hunt. Argentina and Uruguay have some of the best bird hunting on the planet.

Welcome back. See any cute girls over there (-;

Nice story. Been in that situation more than once and it doesn't always turn out with a score. Congrats on the nice gobbler!

Yeah Brent my family flew down for Christmas and we ended up dove hunting with Los Chanares Outfitters in Cordoba. It was the cheapest first class opperation I could find and ended up being just stupid shooting. The first day I shot 2800 shells and killed over 2000 doves. Just insane stuff. I also got an opportunity to go way south in Argentina and hunt guanacos (like wild llamas) and choiques (like small ostriches) on one of my professors' ranch. Its a different world down there, I had so many adventures, it was for sure the best time of my life.
