What I do is hunt National Forest land. The Feds are always the last to close land down to hunting due to fire hazard. (In WA. state, not sure about OR. and CA.)

Why would they close it off for archery?

I am not aware of the Feds ever closing any WA. National Forest in archery season.
About 10 years ago during the archery season, the Feds shut down all off road and ORV trail travel and made everyone entering the NF carry a shovel and extra water in their vehicles. This was a very dry year with active fires in the NF. However, we could still hike in and archery hunt in the NF from the paved main roads.
The first to close land to hunting is always the timber companies and private land open for public hunting.
Next is the state land.
I always have spots on Fed. National Forest land scouted out to hunt as a back up.

It is Oregon and they get parranoid about the flint broadheads we use ,I don`t get it either they ( the ODF oregon department of forrestry ) get anal about fire season and right before archery the shut it down not NF just the private timber lands and state amazingly 3 day bfore Rifle season the woods become safe ,every years this happens I`am no conspircy guy but rifle starts right after archery and every thing is ok by then BTW the woods are just as dry during rifle if not dryer

This wouldn't apply in Oregon, but it might be helpful to California hunters. From the latest CADFG email alert:
Question: Can you please clarify the Department of Fish and Game's
(DFG) deer tag refund policy as related to fire closures? (Joe T.)
Answer: Refunds can be provided for any reason if requested prior to the opening of the earliest season in the zone in which the closure is located. If closures happen after the start of that season, it is DFG's policy to not provide refunds, and that refunds are not available under any circumstances for X zone, additional hunt, and area specific archery hunt tags. Section 306 of the Fish and Game Code does give the Fish and Game Commission authority to hold special seasons following these types of closures.
