| Kaneohe Thursday
Left at 4 on thursday morning, trolled out to the area where the mahis had been on Sunday, but it was dead. Saw some good sized shibi at LL, but the weren't biting at all. Trolled on up to the X and found two cargo nets on the way that looked really good, but weren't holding anything other than triggerfish and 1 lb shibi-ko. It was way too calm for my liking, that's my theory on why the mahis weren't around. X was dead too, but we did get a small mahi about a mile away- mercy bite. Trolled on back to the LL and in without any strikes.
I never have any luck when it's calm like this, it seems like the bite just shuts down on the eastside without the trades. Had a friend who worked Makapuu side and the Molokai channel and sounded like that was pretty unproductive. Too bad, since the mahi bite was firing a couple days before, one of the North Shore charter boats picked up 83 pieces!
Poor me, wah wah wah, I still spent a nice day on the water drinking beer and cruising, and it is nice to be able to stand on the back deck without getting doused- doesn't happen often for us Heeia fishermen.
