They do not have outriggers and the Depth Finder does not show the deep fathom ledges. Therefore, if I were you, I would run the ledge (40 fathoms) up until you want to run out to the FADS. Pick up sum bait at the local shops and stop by the local tackle shops to pick up some tips. The folks at the boat rental company should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck out there. Although I fish on Oahu PM me if you have questions that I can answer. Most importantly enjoy the ride.

Thanks! Yes on Kona Boat Rentals.. Good guys. Left the harbor a little late (not my fault) at 7:30. Headed north to run the 30 line up to the Alternative Power. Picked up a Jack right off the bat, then a double Barracuda. Double Barracuda? Should have know that would turn out to be bad luck. ;-) Stayed north for a couple hours running out to the deep water line and there were tons of birds, but none dropping in to feed. A few boats were there running patterns (large square) from the inside line to out.. Didn't really see anyone yarding fish in, so we headed south to Fads. No birds anywhere.. Drug Pink/White and Green/White (g/w always does well for me up north for albies in Washington and did get the Jack) but nothing for the rest of the day. I'm getting the feeling that right now it's all about the early morning bite and very late- seems like it anyway. After we headed back to the harbor and had a chance to look around, there wasn't many boats flying flags.. So I didn't feel too bad.
Secured another boat for Monday, so we'll see what we can raise.
The boats? 21' O/C. Reasonable prices and did everything we needed it to with obvious exception of limited rod holders and outriggers. Otherwise great.
Thanks for the input.

Kona Boat Rentals was awesome. Cleaned the boat, helped us clean the 32.........nice 32lb Mahi (ok, ok, I'm more at speed with Albie's and Salmon) that we caught this morning. Again, I think Kona at this time of the year is all about the early morning bite. BTW, we were walking around the harbor- proudly displaying my bloody shirt (f'ing Mahi's don't die easily) from the "Manson Christmas" I put down on the little critter, and we found a commy that hooked up with a 51lb'r... Then we saw it hanging- holy sheep dip, a 50+ Mahi is a tank... So, todays take was a very nice Mahi and another great day on the water... White/Pink was what it hit on for what its' worth.
