I always wondered if its possible to "whip" for oio or does your bait need to be sitting on the ocean floor so that the oio can find it.

you can whip for them alright -- "sightfishing" is good fun. gotto see them first. Its all about the right presentation. Bucktail jigs work fine -- one of the oldest and most reliable lures in the world (so they say). ha ha.

Kaneohe oio

Hey Alan,
That really looks like alot of fun! Brings back memories of when I used to go to Ewa bach and hook Oio. Gotta love that initial run....sure been a long time....didn't think there was any fish around near shore to be caught except for all of those big schools of huge Oio that my daughter and I feed on weekends behind the Waikiki Aquarium! Too bad they are PROTECTED. Is that your boat that you use to cruise the flats with? I you don't mind I would love to go after some of those Kaneohe bones if you have space for another body. Let me know! But I really want to go out with you when you go out on the "big boat". Have a great weekend and Hanapa'a!

Could be funny, possible frustrating but definitley disappointing... So uncovered the boat Saturday, got it all checked out, in anticipation for a Sunday trip... Saturday afternoon the neighborhood is packed with party goers, no parking left on the street. Get up 2:30 sunday morning (gonna go catch bait at the buoys first thing) get all set set and head out the door and what do we have but an unknown vehicle blocking the drive way (%&*##$!!!). Well if i had a crew I'd a been knocking on doors but since i was goin' solo just went back to bed. Yeah I know coulda went late, but decided it's gonna be a chore day. Earn plenty of kitchen passes if i get them all done.

Hopefully someone finds them out West...

A "c'est la vie"

Cheers
Pat

oh boy?! Must have happened for some unknown reason. Maybe blessing in disguise. Sometimes things have a funny way of working out in the end.
